The National Capital Branch of the CIC presents

Iran in Context:
Regional and Global Implications
An International Conference on Policy Options

Tehran recently celebrated the 32nd anniversary of the regime change that led to the creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This year's celebrations were overshadowed by events in Tunisia and Egypt and by the international cyber attack, which resulted in virtual paralysis of Iran's nuclear installations. Against this background and in the context of an uncertain outlook for the Middle East region as a whole, this conference will take a look inside Iran in an attempt to better understand what drives its government and policies as well as the forces of opposition. Having a better understanding of why the Iranian Government follows the course it does, and what the prospects are for change, will better equip Canada and the International Community in their policy towards Iran. The focus will be on political and security issues.

Featured panellists include:

Ramin Jahanbegloo
University of Toronto

Cliff Kupchan
Research Director of the Russia and CIS team at Eurasia Group

John Limbert
former US Deputy Secretary of State for Iran

David Menashri
Director, Center for Iranian Studies, Tel Aviv University

Ramin Jahanbegloo
Université de Toronto
